There are very few things that are sweeter than watching your child on stage during their school Christmas play. H owever, when you're five-year-old Claire Koch's parents, you have even more of a reason to gush. The little girl’s parents are both deaf, so she signed the entire Christmas recital so that mum and dad could enjoy it properly. Claire’s mum Lori, who uploaded the clip to...

According to a new UK poll, it seems it is not just students and young adults who binge drink as figures show that the problem extends to British mothers. The poll, which was commissioned by ITV’s This Morning, surveyed 1,000 mums with children under the age of 18. The results show that, of those surveyed, 28% admit to being drunk in front of their child with a quarter being so intoxicated they...

It never occurred to me that our IKEA sofa could be transformed into a pirate ship in a matter of seconds. Take one cream throw for a sail, some coloured paper to create shark fins, some soft toy mice to have on deck and a dish-washing brush for a sword! We even got creative with our used kitchen roll inner which doubled-up as a telescope. One pirate hat and sparkly scarf for one of the shipmates...

According to a recent study, teenagers whose parents threaten or shout at them are more likely to develop depression and disruptive behaviour. When the mother is both verbally and physically abusive and the father displays either of the forms of aggression, there is an increased risk of depression and poor behaviour in adolescents. Dr. Annette Mahoney, professor of psychology at Bowling Green...

According to John Lawlor, chief executive of Scouting Ireland, schools can learn a few things from the scouts. Lawlor believes that schools are stuck in a Victorian time, where a good class is a quiet class, and claims that scouting offers a model for Irish education in the 21 st century . In the scouts, kids learn to work in teams, solve problems and support each other and t he professional world...

Nativity costumes are selling for three times their original price on eBay as parents desperately try to kit their children out for their Christmas play. As supermarkets sell out of the typical Mary, Joseph, shepherd and wise men costumes, parents have resorted to online bidding to ensure their child is appropriately dressed. According to eBay, both used and homemade angel outfits are selling for...

New research has found that a father’s diet plays a critical role in the health of his children. According to the Canadian study, the sperm carries a “memory” of the dad’s lifestyle, which is transferred to his offspring. The research looked at the importance of folic acid in preventing brain and spine defects and while women are already advised to take supplements it looks like men may...

According to new research, first time mothers over the age of 30 are at a higher risk of having a stillborn child, small baby or premature birth. The study, conducted by Sweden’s Karolinska Institute, analysed almost 1 million first time mothers in Sweden and Norway between 1990 and 2010. It found that those who conceived for the first time between the ages of 30 and 34 are as likely to have...

Doctors are warning parents of the dangers of hair straighteners as burn incidents in children double. Dr. Julia Sarginson, who led the research at the burns centre in Bristol Frenchay Hospital, says: “Hair-straightening devices can cause significant, 'full-thickness' injuries. Our study shows that infants and toddlers are at most risk, and these are preventable burns that warrant our...

One would think after the glorious victory of last week that nothing could get in the way of this perpetual weight loss seeker. Well one would be incorrect! Professionally, I was given the honor of being chosen to pitch for a large advertising campaign for a big event next year. This, in essence, meant I had to come up with something creative and interesting that, if I was lucky, would make them...
